...

"L-Levi?!"

The short man leaned away from the doorframe and crossed his arms. "I've heard all I need to hear. You'll meet Hanji and I tomorrow morning in my office. I'll let Arlert know he needs to be there as well." He said sternly. Just like that, he turned and walked out.

Your felt your whole body shaking. In your head, a million questions surfaced. What was he going to say? Who's going to be involved? He said Hanji was coming...what does that mean for us? Will I ever get to see Armin again? That train of thought went on until Sasha grabbed and shook you.

"Hello? Please don't be brain dead!" Sasha pleaded.

Still shaking, you stood up. "I-I'm fine...I just..." You steadied yourself before continuing, "It's best not to think about it r-right now. I'll worry about it tomorrow. L-l-let's just clean this room okay? Then we can sleep..."

You cleaned as best you could with quivering hands.

At daybreak, you dragged yourself out of bed, brushed your (h/c) hair, and slipped on your uniform. To say you were scared was an understatement, you were terrified. The best you could do was to swallow your fear and walk towards Levi's office. It felt akin to walking straight into a Titan's mouth.

As you approached the office, the voices you heard got louder.

"What were you thinking, Arlert?!" You heard Levi say.

Armin replied. "I was thinking that I love her....sir."

You pushed the door open. "U-um, Hello. I'm not late am I? I didn't mean to interrupt."

Armin turned around on the bench and smiled. "________! You weren't interrupting, I was just explaining to Levi that-"

"That the both of you have broken one of my rules." Levi interjected.

"Now now, let's not be so serious about this! We can resolve this issue without  trouble." Hanji said from behind the door. You closed it so she could move. "It's nice to see you this morning, ________. Please take a seat next to Armin."

As you sat, Levi continued. "Now, you both know I have rules about fraternization. Fraternization breeds love and -"

"Love destroys reason." Armin finished. "However, that's not entirely true. __________ and I have been together for quite a while now and it's never affected our performance in the field." He paused. "We're perfectly capable of keeping our relationship separate from our work."

Hanji walked up behind the both of you and slapped you on the backs. "You see Levi?! They have it all worked out! Must we punish them for breaking such a silly rule?"

Levi scoffed. "A silly rule? What happens when they get married and they're out on the field? 'Oh, well I could save five soldiers or I could save my husband.'" He said in a mocking tone. "It's dangerous. Soldiers could die because they want to be together!"

"...If I may interject for a moment?" You said mildly. "Armin and I are both extremely logical beings. Both you and Hanji know that. Ask Erwin and he'll tell you the same. We won't let emotion get in the way of our performance."

"I won't bet my soldiers on it!" Levi yelled in reply. "I should kick you both out!"

That's when it hit you.

"Hmm...May I propose an alternative route of action, sir?" You said as you felt your confidence coming back.

"You...may." Levi replied, smirking in anticipation.

You looked to Armin, who gave you a quizzical but encouraging look, before you continued. "I propose....that I withdraw from field work. I will gladly resign myself to an office. Just please, let me be with Armin."

Armin looked upset. "You can't-"

Hanji interrupted with a laugh "Levi, how can you turn that down? It makes perfect sense! With one of them out of active duty, they won't have to worry about the other being in danger!"

"...No" came the cold reply. "We barely have any capable soldiers as it is, I won't let one sit behind a desk when they could be fighting. As much as I hate to say it, both her and Arlert are useful. Giving up one of my two field tacticians isn't doable." Levi shook his head dismissively.

Bile came up in your throat. You were giving up field work to sit behind a desk, but that wasn't even enough. Why was Levi being so difficult!? You understood his rule, but it seemed so dictatorial...it wasn't fair. Maybe you could offer to clean for him each day as well? Would that work? Maybe...

Hanji's voice pulled you back to reality. "Levi, do you remember Petra?" She asked as she pulled up a chair beside him.

"...Can we not talk about Petr-" Levi began. Hanji had hit a soft spot.

"No, we're going to. You know what she would tell you to do. Plus, Armin and _______ have proven already that they are capable of maintaining a relationship without killing anyone." She paused and looked to Armin. "How long have you two been a thing?" Hanji asked.

"Three years exactly, Squad Leader." Armin answered, blushing slightly.

"And, at any time during the last three years, have you made a tactical decision that was based solely on keeping ________ alive?" Hanji pressed on, her chin resting on her hands.

"No, ma'am. I try and keep everyone alive." Armin replied.

Hanji rose up and gestured towards Armin. "See there? I see no reason why they can't get marri-" She began.

"All right Hanji!" Levi said as he shot up from his seat. "You win! They'll stay on active duty. But if I see either one of you screw up..." He stared at you and then Armin. "I'll discharge you both." As he was walking out, he called over his shoulder. "Oh, and you'll be getting married tomorrow since it's an off day...I'd start planning." Then he slammed the door.

Hanji squealed and jumped up from her seat, "Yahooo! I'll get started on the decorations!"

Someone is going to die. It's HANJI planning it, after all.
